E-commerce apps

A shopping app with a product catalog, cart, and checkout, built to actually process orders and payments, not just display products.

In depth

What e-commerce apps really involves

A shopping app earns its place when customers buy often enough to want your store on their home screen: repeat orders, reorders, loyalty. For occasional buyers who arrive from search or ads, a well-built mobile website usually does the job, and an app may not pay for itself yet. Working out which situation you're in is the first bit of advice we give.

If an app does make sense, the work centres on three things: browsing that stays fast with a big catalogue, a checkout that asks for as little as possible, and payments that match your customers. In India that means UPI, cards, wallets and often cash on delivery, handled properly. In the US, cards and wallets. A failed or confusing payment loses more sales than almost any design flaw.

The app should plug into the store you already run, not become a second system to manage. Products, stock, prices and orders stay in one place, usually your Shopify store or a custom backend, so nobody updates things twice. We also plan notifications, order tracking and returns, since those moments decide whether a first-time buyer comes back.

How it goes

How we approach e-commerce apps

01

Decide whether an app earns its keep

We look at purchase frequency and your current mobile traffic. If a faster mobile site would do more, we say so before you spend on an app.

02

Connect to your catalogue and orders

The app reads products, stock and prices from your existing store and writes orders back. One source of truth.

03

Design browse-to-pay

Search, filters, product pages, cart and checkout are tuned for one-handed use, with saved details and as few steps as we can manage.

04

Test payments and the awkward cases

Failed payments, retries, coupon rules, out-of-stock items and order status updates. That's where trust is won or lost.

Ideal for

Who this fits

01

Retail businesses ready to sell directly through an app

02

Brands wanting to reduce dependence on third-party marketplaces

Watch out for

Common mistakes, and how we avoid them

Managing the catalogue twice

Maintaining products in two places guarantees mistakes. We integrate with what you already have.

Long checkout forms

Every extra field loses buyers. Saved addresses and UPI or wallet flows cut the typing.

Notifications that nag

Too many promotions get the app uninstalled. We start with order updates and well-timed messages.

FAQ · 05

E-commerce apps: common questions

Not necessarily. A fast, well-built store handles most mobile shoppers. An app is worth considering if you have loyal repeat customers or want strong push engagement.
