Progressive Web Apps

An app-like experience that runs in the mobile browser, installable to the home screen, with offline support and push notifications, without requiring an app store download.

In depth

What progressive web apps really involves

A progressive web app is a website that behaves like an app. Someone can add it to their home screen, open it full-screen, and keep using parts of it with a weak connection. Because it runs in the browser, there's nothing to download from a store, and an update reaches everyone straight away.

That suits things like booking tools, catalogues, customer portals and internal dashboards, where reach and speed of delivery matter more than deep phone features. It's a poor fit if you need advanced hardware access, or if being listed in the App Store and Play Store is part of your plan. A PWA won't get you discovered there on its own.

One caution: support isn't the same everywhere. Browsers and phones differ on install prompts and notifications, and the rules keep shifting. We design around what works reliably for your audience and say plainly when a feature depends on a particular browser.

How it goes

How we approach progressive web apps

01

Check the fit

We compare what your product needs with what PWAs reliably do today. If you need store listing or heavy device access, we'll tell you it's the wrong first step.

02

Decide what works offline

What must be available without a connection, what can be cached, and how stale data is shown. That's a product decision, not just a technical switch.

03

Design install and notification prompts

We work out when to invite people to install and how to ask about notifications, so the prompts feel helpful instead of pushy.

04

Test on real browsers and phones

Install, offline use and updates get checked on the devices your users have, including slower ones.

Ideal for

Who this fits

01

Businesses testing app-market fit before committing to native

02

Content or catalog apps that don't need deep device features

Watch out for

Common mistakes, and how we avoid them

Promising everything native can do

A PWA can't match every native feature. We write the scope around real browser support.

Silent stale data

Showing out-of-date prices or bookings offline, with no warning, causes real problems. We build clear indicators.

A heavy script bundle

A PWA that loads slowly defeats the point. We keep it lean and measure it.

FAQ · 05

Progressive Web Apps: common questions

Often, because there's one codebase and no store submission. A simple PWA is usually lighter to build and maintain than two native apps.
