Tracking setup

The tracking foundation your store needs before running ads: GA4 ecommerce tracking, Meta Pixel with Conversions API, and Google tags, set up correctly from day one.

In depth

What tracking setup really involves

If your Shopify ads seem to perform differently depending on which dashboard you look at, you're not imagining it. Tracking gets messy: browser privacy changes block pixels, apps double-count purchases, and checkout events don't always fire the way they should. Decisions made on bad data are expensive.

A solid setup connects the store, Google Analytics 4, the Meta Pixel and your Google Ads account, and tracks the events that matter: product views, add to cart, checkout started, purchase. We then check each one against real test orders and Shopify's own sales numbers, because the figures should roughly agree.

Where possible we add server-side signals through the platforms' conversion APIs, which recover some of the events that browser blocking drops. We'll also explain what you can't know. No tracking is perfect, and attribution across platforms always involves some guesswork. The aim is numbers good enough to decide with.

Why it matters

How this helps your business grow

Means any ads you run later have accurate data to optimize against from day one
Prevents the common problem of launching ads on a store with broken or missing tracking
Gives you real visibility into what's selling and where customers actually come from

What's included

What we set up for you

GA4 ecommerce tracking: product views, add-to-cart, and purchase events
Meta Pixel and Conversions API (server-side) setup together, not the Pixel alone
Google tag setup, ready for Google Ads and Merchant Center
Verification that events actually fire correctly, not just that the tags are installed

How it goes

How we approach tracking setup

01

Audit the existing setup

We find missing, duplicated or broken tags and check what's reported against Shopify's own order data.

02

Plan the events

A short list of events, such as view, add to cart, checkout and purchase, with the right values and currencies.

03

Implement browser and server-side tracking

Pixel, GA4 and ad conversions get configured, with server-side events where supported.

04

Test with real orders

We place orders and confirm each platform records them once, with the right revenue.

Ideal for

Who this fits

01

Stores about to launch paid campaigns

02

Stores already running ads on broken or incomplete tracking

Watch out for

Common mistakes, and how we avoid them

Double-counted purchases

Often caused by an app plus manual code. We test for duplicates.

Wrong currency or value

Mismatched values distort return on ad spend. We verify them.

Ignoring consent rules

Depending on where your customers are, consent may be required. We configure accordingly.

Tracking setup: common questions

Attribution windows, browser blocking and different counting methods all cause gaps. Some difference is normal, but large gaps usually point to setup problems we can fix.
